Even though this distillery on the island of Jura overlooks the Island of Islay it does in fact produce Highland malts. Water is drawn from the nearby Market Loch and has been, since the early 16th century. A local dispute closed the distillery earlier this century for over 50 years but it has been in full production since the early sixties. George Orwell wrote Nineteen eighty four on Jura. Excellent as an aperitif. Golden, light and piny nose, malty sweetness with a hint of saltiness.
