"DOUBLE BARREL" Introduced initially as a Macallan-Laphroaig bottling from selected single casks of each (which we believe will continue as a “regular” bottling), Douglas Laing have continued the process with selected single casks from different distilleries.
That must have been an intriguing and distinctly fun process, whereby they would have sampled and approved different casks then married/vatted them with different distillery Malts.
That process developed to a point where they were also offering Ardbeg/Glen Rothes, Bowmore/Highland Park and Braeval/Caol Ila fusions.
Whether you call this a vatted Malt or a blend of Malts – they have brought together in each of these DOUBLE BARREL selections some truly individual and unique character of nose, palate and finish, all left unchill filtered at 46% alc vol.
