Amatller is probably the oldest brand in Spain, having been active since the Amatller family started making chocolate in 1797 from a small factory in the district of Santa Maria del mar in Barcelona
Amatller Chocolates passed from father to son until 1872 when the founders grandson, Antoni Amatller - who had travelled throughout Europe from an early age visiting its main chocolate fatories - built a new factory at Sant Marti de Provencals, fitted out with the most modern of German and French machinery when it opened in 1878
